Mersham Women & Girls Win League!
Playing against a young Bexley team on Sunday Mersham recorded a comfortable victory by 85 runs.
Batting first, Mersham reached 132 for 3 with opener, Helen Fagg, continuing her explosive style by hitting seven 4’s to retire on 30 not out. Following her departure a partnership of 53 by Katie Jordan who again retired not out 30 and Jemma Coales who finished on 27 not out took Mersham to a commanding total only for them to then lose 2 quick wickets to off spinner Swart. A quick knock of 9 by Rachel Stevens brought the innings to a close at the end of their 20 overs. In reply Bexley never really got going with only opener Thomas reaching double figures with 14. The bowlers shred the wickets with Sam Saunders taking 3 for 9 and Emma Kennedy 2 for 5 being the pick. Head coach Kevin Burton praised the entire squad for their efforts and commitment during the season.
“This victory means that with 7 wins from 8 games Mersham finish top of the inaugural Kent Women’s T20 League. For many this is their first year of competitive cricket and I have been proud of their attitude and willingness to learn. We have witnessed some exceptional individual and team performances this year and to win the League at their first attempt is a fantastic achievement for a team that has only been playing for such a short period of time.”
