Mersham Women Romp to Second Win
Playing in their second Kent Womens Club T20 League match, Mersham had a comfortable victory against a relatively young Beckenham team on Sunday.
Despite losing a wicket in the first over, Rosalie Stemp (15) and Eve Peters (27) put on 25 runs before the match was halted when Mersham fielder Nicole Jordan broke her collarbone diving to stop a boundary. Lewisham Hospital were outstanding in dealing with the injury and although still in significant pain Jordan was able to return home the same day.
When the match resumed, although missing the injured Nicole and her sister Katie who went to the hospital with her, Mersham’s remaining fielders performed brilliantly with two run-outs contributing to the regular fall of wickets which saw Beckenham dismissed for 69 with Lauren Uttley 2-14 and Chelsea Lenihan 2-11 being the pick of the bowlers.
The Mersham openers, Helen Fagg (28), who earlier took 4 catches in the outfield, and Lenihan (24 not out) then put on 51 in in 6.1 overs and 3 overs later the match was won by 8 wickets.
